THE RICHARD FREED MEMORIAL CABARET [charity event]

THE BACKGROUND

The Richard Freed Memorial Cabaret was organised by Darren and Jamie Freed, after their father passed away in 2005 due to a heart attack. It's aim's were to to raise heart health awareness to ensure that their peers don’t find themselves without a father at such a young age. All money raised during the evening of light entertainment was in support of the British Heart Foundation.

THE BRIEF

I was one of a committee of 7 who were charged with organising and production managing this evening over the course of 6 months. The evening was to include dinner, light entertainment and live music and comedy acts. The roles that I headed up were Website Design, Stage Manager, Filmmaker and Musical Performer.

THE ACTION

The website was created well ahead of the event, acting as the hub of information for evryone interesting in supporting and finding out about the event

- As Stage Manager, I co ordinated the entertainment side of the evening, liasing with the acts during rehearsals and the show, ensuring everrything 'stage bound' ran smoothly during the course of the four acts of the evening's entertainment.

- My band "Blues Riff in B" played a selection of cover songs for the evening, which had been rehearsed meticulously for months.

- 2 films were produced that were screened during the evening's events. MOTION, AGREED....CARRIED was an original short comedy film specially written. It starred the cabaret comittee in a parody of ourselves reminicent of the "Orange Wednesday" adverts. REMEMBERING RICHARD was a documentary to pay tribute to the event's namesake and also to the hard work in putting the event together.

THE RESULTS

The event was a success, with over 300 people in attendance, the evening raised over £20,000 in total for The British Heart Foundation, £17,000 on the night itself.
